So, what is it like being an exchange student?

It is probably the biggest decision you have made yet in your life...

Whether to sit back and remain in your everyday surroundings...

Whether to give it all up and move to the other side of the world for a year...

That's what I did...

I wouldn't call myself a particularly brave person, either.

I am someone who loves my home, was a real homebody - content to sit back and just watch the world go by.

I come from a very close family, immediate and extended.

I have never really had the burning desire to push myself to the limit, test my boundaries, see exactly how far I am willing and able to go.

And yet, I chose to go on exchange...

The main reason I first thought about exchange was because it gave me the opportunity to travel, one of my favourite things to do.

But then I realised all the other things being an exchange student could do for me...

Not only would I get to see the world, but I would get to:

Learn a Language

Make New Friends

Broaden my Horizons

Increase my Independence

Make myself a Stronger Person

and Become part of a Second Family, hopefully forever...

And that's not even all of it!

You get to do things you would never have dreamed of doing at home, or things you would never have the opportunity to do. And you need to take every opportunity you can - anything that doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

You only have one shot at life... so make it a good one!

Every day I discover some new way in which my exchange is helping me out.

Do I sound like an advertisement yet?

Just in case I don't, there's more.

I know if you are someone who is trying to decide whether or not to go on exchange, you have heard this next sentence a hundred million times. I did, and I wasn't sure that I believed the people. I thought they were just trying to please their exchange companies. But now that I am doing it, I know they are not lying.

It is the best decision I have made in my life!

So if you are thinking about doing it, but you're not sure, I say GO FOR IT!

You may have your doubts now - most people do - but you won't regret it for one minute if you chose to do it.

I know I don't regret it!
